Juan Tamariz explores the delicate balance between magic and humor—how laughter can enhance or interrupt the sense of wonder—through both performance and thoughtful analysis. In the video, Tamariz performs and explains his handling of Follow the Leader, the Malini Egg Bag, and several card and coin effects, pausing to discuss where comedy fits: when to insert a joke, how to let amazement settle before humor returns, and how a comic moment can justify a secret move. The PlayBook organizes all the theory from his talk, chapter by chapter: distinguishing types of humor, examining how laughter can redirect attention or reinforce conviction, and emphasizing the need to keep the magical premise clear throughout. This is a chance to watch and study, side by side, how Tamariz shapes effects and reflects on the role of comedy in magic.
The theory, in writing. The practice, on video. Each in its place, one click apart.
Everything set out in the video — ideas, concepts, principles and the reasoning behind them — is presented, explained and detailed in the book, chapter by chapter, so you can read it calmly and come back to it whenever you want.
Tricks, techniques and demonstrations are not described in words: they are watched. The book leaves them to the video, which is where they are best understood.
Right where a trick or a practical part comes up in the text, a button takes you to the exact second of the video where it happens. Watch it, and carry on reading.
Look up a word, a trick or a concept, or ask the AI in your own words: it finds what you are looking for in the document and takes you straight to the page.
Zoom the page in or out, show or hide the side index to read full screen, and switch between light and dark mode whenever you like.
Take it with you as a PDF, with the same book design, to read offline or print. And it is always waiting for you in My Collection.
The video stands on its own: watch it from start to finish, just like any other video, without ever opening the PlayBook.
And when you want to go deeper, the PlayBook is synced with it: every idea in the book takes you to the exact second it is explained.
